The ideal system allows leaves to be
blown off naturally by the wind. The below
example shows how it is attached to the front
lip of the gutter, then passes over the first
row of tiles and finally under the second row of
tiles which hold the back the mesh. This allows
a slight incline and once leaves are dry they
will be blown off by the wind naturally. In the
case of metal roofs, clips hold down the mesh at
the roof end. When gutters are blocked with
leaves and debris, they simply do not drain or
dry out after the rain. This results in ponding
of water, causing a build up of vegitation an
animal matter to rot a perfect breeding ground
for insects. It is important to look at all
aspects of what the gutter guard should do.
